Navi Mumbai Building Collapse: 1 person is dead along with two people injured in the shocking tragedy of building collapse in Navi Mumbai. Early this morning, a three-storey building collapsed in Shahbad- Belapur village, in the Navi Mumbai area. In quick response, the fire brigade of Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation reached the place and started an extensive rescue operation to clear the debris and rescue the trapped residents.
Estimatingly, 4 people got stuck inside the collapsed building. The fire brigade by joining hands with the National Disaster Response Team or NDRF has started a large-scale operation and 2 people have been rescued from the rubble. Navi Mumbai Deputy Fire Officer, Purushottam Yadav said,
“We received a call about a building collapse at 4.50 am. Two people have been rescued. Two people are likely to be trapped and a rescue operation is underway to rescue them.”
Unfortunately, the latest update has informed that 3 persons have passed away in this tragedy. but it is also a hardcore fact that this could have been even a bigger tragedy if the 52 building residents had not been hurriedly evacuated, minutes after the cracks were noticed.
“Rescue operations are underway. Teams of NDRF, police and fire brigade are carrying out rescue operations. Almost all people have been evacuated…Mahanagar Palika is conducting an inquiry into the incident and action will be accordingly.”
DCPZone 1 Navi Mumbai, Pankaj Dahane has officially stated.
This tragic incident brought to the forefront the need for immediate safety standards and timely inspections to monitor the structural integrity of buildings. It is, in fact, a grim reminder of the timely maintenance and sharp-eyed supervision required to prevent such disasters. The authorities are going to rethink the existing rules to revise them by making more stringent provisions to ensure better safety measures in the future. Community members rally together with local authorities to assist the relatives of the affected and any other assistance. The basic causes of the collapse would be inquired into and accountability would be determined so that it does not recur.
