But this is not the first time that she has achieved the rarity. Haryana, known for its culture of wrestling and boxing, is where she is from. At a young age, she excelled in tennis, skating, and martial arts, earning national acclaim. But her introduction to the shooting is less coincidental and more by the drive to win medals in the Olympics. She has broken the convention, by becoming an air pistol shooter at the age of fourteen. She grabbed the attention after defeating the Olympian Heena Sidhu at the national championships. At just sixteen, she achieved India’s first Olympic shooting gold and won gold at the Youth Olympics, a significant milestone.

But the journey was not always the same. Despite participating in three events, an unfortunate equipment malfunction disrupted her performance and let her down in the event. but determined to make a strong return to the arena, she initiated hardcore training for the upcoming events under the supervision of coach Jaspal Rana. At the 10-meter air pistol event, she completed the qualification round at the third position and after showcasing a remarkable performance at the final, she concluded the 12-year vacuum of winning a medal at the Olympics. On 30th July 2024, she grabbed another Olympic medal in the 10-meter mixed team air pistol event as the team of Manu Bhaker and Sarabjit Singh achieved the bronze position.
PM Modi has congratulated them on his X handle,
“Our shooters continue to make us proud! Congratulations to @realmanubhaker and Sarabjot Singh for winning the Bronze medal in the 10m Air Pistol Mixed Team event at the #Olympics . Both of them have shown great skills and teamwork. India is incredibly delighted.”
Manu Bhaker’s journey is inspiring India and future young athletes worldwide.
