Manchester United: Legacy and Old Trafford
A conflict can always be resolved either on the battlefield or in the playing field. Who told this, is a debate for another time, but every hardcore sports lover would resemble this quote, as to them a battle and a game have no difference. Notably, Football has always been the most popular game in the world and is marked out as one of the most intense team sports. And what makes football the most celebrated and most adrenaline-filled game is its high-spirited fans. Fans make a soccer game so special, intense and aggressive and for many years, fans have bestowed some of the teams one of the most renowned, celebrated football teams in the world. Listening to the billion football fans around the world, if we start to enlist all the national football teams and private football clubs in the world, then Manchester United Football Club would come in the top ten.
Also called as Man United, Manchester Football Club has been entertaining fans for the last 146 years. The club was established in 1878, initially named Newton Heath LYR Football Club. Later, they changed the title in 1902 to what is known today. Having a legacy of almost one and a half centuries, the club has gone through many ups and downs. To this date, Manchester United Football Club has won 13 FA Cups, 6 League Cups, 3 European Champion Cups and 1 FIFA Club World Cup.
When we are talking about Man U, we have to talk about the Old Trafford stadium, with which the fans’ love and sentiment are deeply connected. Originally opened on February 19, 1910, this is the twelfth-largest stadium in Europe. From its very opening days, the stadium has still served as the home ground of Manchester United and has been called by fans “The Theatre of Dreams ‘. The century-old stadium holds many historical significance. The stadium served as a military depot during the Second World War and in 1941 it was heavily demolished in a bombing raid. Later the stadium received reconstruction and reopened in 1949. The current audience capacity at Old Trafford is 75,454.
