Spiritual Significance

Based on the Hindu calendar, the entire month has divided into two parts stretching over 15 days.  This cycle has conducted based on the moon cycle – Krishna Paksha and Shukla Paksha. The last day of Krishna Paksha is Amabashya (No Moon).  The ultimate day of Krishna Paksha has referred to as Purnima (Full Moon). Amabashya in Bhadra month in the Bengali Calendar holds a significant spirit for the devotees of Goddess Maa Kali. This amavashya has described as the queen among all other amavashyas. As a result of this, Kaushiki Amavashya has also referred as Kushgrahini Amavasya, Alok Amavasya, and Bhadra Amavasya.

Date of Worship

This year, this spiritual event is going to be celebrated on coming Monday (2nd September 2024). “Mahamaya Jagat Janani and Brahmamayi Maa” will be worshipped on this day with great enthusiasm and devotion this coming Monday. The devotees always pray heartily to achieve success and others to the goddess.  Maa has fulfilled the aspirations of her devotees on this day.

Spiritual Meaning of Kaushiki Amavashya

During ancient days, all deities and human beings had distressed with outrage of Shumbh-Nishumbh. For this reason, they prayed to Maa Durga. This goddess satisfied with their devotions and introduced a cell outside of her body. This other state of Maa Durga has called Maa Kaushiki. She killed all the above-mentioned cruel demons.

On this day, Maa Kaushiki has destroyed all the demons which are present in our minds. The demons in our mind are popularly known as Shara Ripus. These are the main culprits or demons for ourselves who make hurdles for our growth and development. The devotees have prayed to this goddess to remove these evil intentions or attitudes from our minds and to inject goodness in our minds. This goodness has aided us to provide success in our lives. The devotees have lightened the lamps in their houses so this celebration has also referred as lightened Amavasya.

Significance of Maa Kaushiki

Maa Kaushiki‘s Swaroop (persona) is pleasant and adorable. She appears as an inconspicuous girl clutching a veena, a musical gadget, and has a countenance that is dark blue sky. Kaushiki Maa selected music as a means of ushering about world harmony after conquering the demons, shumbh with nishumbh. The seventh stratum of the sky, which is dazzling like a star, is where Maa Durga constructed a magnificent castle for her, where she performs Veena ceaselessly.
