GOAT Box Office: Thalapathy Vijay’s Film Hits ₹300 Crore
The much-awaited film of Thalapathy Vijay, titled GOAT-which stands for The Greatest of All Time-has justified the name of the film with phenomenal box office collections, confirming Vijay’s status as one of the biggest stars in Indian cinema currently. Helmed by Venkat Prabhu and bankrolled by AGS Entertainment, the Telugu actioner has been going from strength to strength globally, raking in more than ₹303 crore at the worldwide box office in just six days.
A Good Beginning with Some Mid-Week Fall
GOAT hit the screens on September 5th and started well, collecting ₹44 crore on the first day itself. From the very outset, one could feel the buzz and hype in the air for the movie, as it happened to star none other than Vijay in an ensemble cast consisting of Prabhu Deva, Sneha, Yogi Babu, and Meenakshi Chaudhary. It reportedly suffered a major drop on Day 2 to fall 42% to ₹25.5 crore.
Even with that dip, the film managed to gain ground through the weekend, raking in ₹33.5 crore on Saturday good 30% increase from Friday. Equally good was the Sunday number, with the movie collecting ₹34 crore to prove that Vijay’s fans remained loyal and the film had managed to retain its sheen. Just like many successful releases, GOAT saw a serious drop on Monday, bringing home ₹14.75 crore, which is 56% less compared to the Sunday figures.
On Day 6 – Tuesday, the movie further collected ₹10.50 crore with a fall of 29%. The total domestic net collection reached ₹162.25 crore at the end of the first six days while the India gross collection attained ₹178 crore. Meanwhile, in the overseas market, an impressive ₹125 crores were contributed, taking the total worldwide gross box office collection to ₹ 303 crores.
Thalapathy Vijay Joins the ₹300 Crore Club Again.
This becomes a big achievement for Vijay as GOAT crosses the ₹300 crore mark. As his second film after crossing this benchmark, Vijay’s 2023 action thriller Varisu earned ₹297.50 crore. Now, what was more remarkable was that he would now be the only actor other than Rajinikanth to have two Telugu films that crossed ₹300 crores globally. Rajinikanth achieved this feat with 2.0 and Jailer.
This puts GOAT in the elite company of a few Telugu films to have reached these marks at the box office. Still miles away from beating the previous hit of Vijay, Leo, that collected ₹606 crore worldwide, GOAT has almost sealed its deal as one of the biggest successes of 2024.
What Worked for GOAT
Various factors contributed towards the box office success of GOAT. Star power remained a major draw, and the coming together of Thalapathy Vijay and Venkat Prabhu kept tongues wagging in anticipation. Besides, an ensemble cast including fan-loved artists like Prabhu Deva and Yogi Babu helped broaden the appeal of the film.
Further added to this was the high-octane action, drama, and depth of emotion that GOAT had to offer-instant hit, especially in South India. Despite competition from other releases, the film has managed a sure slot in leading theatres across the country.
The Road Ahead for GOAT
While GOAT is still running in theatres, the whole attention is whether the film would keep up the momentum and challenge some of the other big grossers among Telugu films. But while Leo’s monstrous ₹606 crore box office take may prove insurmountable, the strong performance of GOAT so far means it should remain one of the top earners this year.
Although the industry is waiting with bated breath for GOAT, it does not stop fans of Vijay from beginning celebrations over the latest feat of their matinee idol. With two ₹300-crore hits in his kitty, Thalapathy Vijay has raised the bar once more, proving why he has remained one of the most cherished and bankable stars in the industry.
