Demise of Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee
Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, born on March 1, 1944, in Kolkata, West Bengal, is a prominent Indian politician known for his tenure as the Chief Minister of West Bengal from 2000 to 2011. A member of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), Bhattacharjee‘s life and career are deeply intertwined with the political and social landscape of West Bengal.
Bhattacharjee was born into an educated Bengali family. His father, Sukumar Bhattacharjee, was a well-known freedom fighter and a member of the Forward Bloc. Educated at Sailendra Sircar Vidyalaya and then at Presidency College, Kolkata, he graduated with a degree in Bengali literature. Bhattacharjee took over as West Bengal’s Chief Minister in 2000, replacing Jyoti Basu.
