A 12-hour stretched Bangla Bandh is going to be conducted by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) tomorrow in West BengalNabanna Abhijan, which has happened today due to protests on several issues like gender discrimination, sexual harassment, and rape incident at R. G. Kar Medical College, Kolkata. Both Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of R.G. Kar Medical College in Kolkata, and Dr. Debasish Shome, a professor of forensic medicine at the same institution, have emboldened by the revelations. Profound malfeasance as well as deceit have charged against them.

This protest has initiated with a peaceful demonstration with several people from various corners. With flowing of time, this has turned into a massive loud outcry – “WE WANT JUSTICE”. Protesters have chanted this slogan while marching toward Nabanna, the main administrative building. They have demanded to resign Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee for not properly addressing such pervasive issues. The illegal recycling process of biomedical wastes in hospitals and trafficking of deadbodies have sparked concern. These have exposed the tremendous levels of corruption that have threatened the public health. These anger and grievances have intensified with the financial corruption-related allegations. All these aspects have eroded the trust issue in the administration of the State Government of West Bengal.

The BJP has stepped up its call for a Bangla Bandh in reaction to these incidents.  It has hoped to impose pressure on the State Government to address these significant issues seriously. ED & CBI inquiries into illegal actions and corruption have emerged.  This Bharat Bandh intends to bring the state to an abrupt halt as the public’s call for justice grows stronger.
