ISI plans to aid more startups of Bengal by 2025

The Institute of Data Engineering, Analytics and Science Foundation of the Indian Statistical Institute is enthusiastic about supporting the start-ups in Bengal with funding and seed capital. So far, the institute has already provided financial assistance to five tech start-ups.
According to Mr. Debashis Ghosh the present head of technology business development and incubation at IDEAS-ISI, “In 2023-24, we supported five startups financially.”.
4 startups availed of a Rs 10 lakh grant under the ‘Prayas’ scheme of the department of science and technology. Another startup we almost acquired a 4% equity stake in by making an investment in seed funding amounting to Rs 50 lakh.” Ghosh said this while delivering an address during the inauguration of the two-day ‘Kolkata MSME and Startup Conclave 2025’ held at ISI today.
Ideas Is, the startup that was formed back in 2022, creates and expands on the state’s startup ecosystem. They have so far incubated 16 startups, most from Bengal. Till 2025, they will be incubating 25 startups.
Speaking at the conclave, Bidhan Das, regional head of the Indian Institute of Packaging, said that how to make bio-plastics more affordable and accessible was a point that needed consideration.
