Reclaim the Night: Kolkata
Cause of Protest
Another protest named ‘Reclaim the Night” has swept across several corners of West Bengal, especially Kolkata to demand justice against the murder as well as the rape of a female doctor during her duty hours at R.G.Kar Medical College & Hospital (RGKMCH) in Kolkata on 9th August 2024. There is no proper justice or any punishment for the offenders and almost one month has gone by since the occurrence.

On the evening of yesterday (4th September 2024), protesters brought lamps, candles as well as torches to provide safety and security for women along with demanding justice for this atrocious incident in this reputed hospital in Kolkata during duty hours. Most portion of Kolkata went to the darkest status this evening to symbolize the protest-related activities regarding the brutal event of “Tilottama”. It has turned into a unique scene of the solitary attitude of Kolkata with the young doctors of this city.

Darkness in Raj Bhawan and Victoria Memorial
Significant landmarks like Raj Bhawan and Victoria Memorial dived into dark conditions. Governor C.V. Ananda Bose also hit the switch at Raj Bhawan to execute solidarity. Several people also doused the lights at their homes while they hit the main crossings and roads in Kolkata with the burning candles. All these protest activities have been performed to exhibit condolence to the departed soul of “Abhaya” and to stop criminal offense-related activities in any place forever. So, nobody can imagine being involved in such brutal activities related to the safety and security of women.
